Based on the success of our select special interest tours over the last two years we have expanded our programme to include a tour that combines both the highlights of Greek Easter and some of the islands archaeological delights, two tours that focus on the islands wonderful spring flowers, a painting tour that is open to all levels, and an eastern Crete historical and archaeological tour that focuses on the delights of that specfic region and which is based at the very comfortable 5* Istron Bay Hotel. All of our tours take place in the cooler months of the year. Firstly in Spring when Crete bursts into bloom with flowers and aromatic herbs covering the hillsides in a vibrant display of colour and in Autumn when the arrival of the cooler air brings an incredible clarify of light that sharpens the views as you walk amongst orange, chestnut and olive groves, mountain plateaus and narrow gorges.

Far from the crowds and purpose built resorts the far west of the island gives you the opportunity to discover a more authentic Crete and its traditional culture. Our base will be at the provincial town of Kissamos, predominantly an agricultural working town, which offers a glimpse of local life mixed with a touch of tourism. It is situated in the middle of the bay that sits between the ‘fingers’ of two peninsulas, Gramvousa and Rodopos on the north coast.

The accommodation will be at the Galini Hotel positioned at the end of the town’s small promenade, next to the sea. The comfortable rooms offer private bath/shower and balcony.

The itinerary includes 5 guided walks, graded easy to medium, covering a distance of 7 to 12 kilometres a day. The walks will take you over mountain ridges, along secluded coastlines, amongst slopes covered in olive groves, through valleys bordered with chestnut trees and abandoned villages. There is one free day included in the itinerary and our local guide will be happy to suggest places to visit. If you are feeling energised you may like to use your free day to join a guided excursion to the 18km Samaria Gorge.

All meals are included in the price of the holiday with the exception of the free day when lunch and dinner are not included. Breakfast is taken every morning at the Sunny Bay Hotel and dinner will be at a local restaurant every evening with the exception of one evening when dinner will be taken at a taverna in the Venetian harbour town of Chania. Lunches will be at village tavernas each day.

Walking boots are essential and clients should be in good health

The walks are organised by Stelios and Angela, a local Greek/English couple, who began operating walking tours in 1999.
